Hand-lettering versus Calligraphy
Calligraphy is a type of hand-lettering that is achieved by using a specific tool called a nib and ink. Hand-lettering can be done with any tool: a paint brush, pen, pencil, marker, chalk, Sharpie, crayon, etc. This course is all about hand-lettering, so all you need is a pen and paper to get started.
The owner of Tiny Bits of Happiness, Meredith is a hand-letterer, designer, and educator based in Michigan. She is passionate about bringing the art and craft of lettering to everyone and focuses on the real, non-perfect, and unique side of lettering.
This course combines Meredith's two love languages of teaching and modern lettering. She is here to teach you all the tips and tricks to elevate your hand lettering game all while cheering you on and sprinkling in cheesy jokes.

Now that you've got the fundamentals down, it's time to start creating each specific letter. With guided video tutorials, Meredith shows you exactly how to form all 26 letters of the alphabet and shares her tips and tricks for getting that flowing, hand-lettered look to each.
Module 002: Create Your Alphabet
Here, the fun really begins, because you're putting it all together to start lettering full words and phrases! Using guided video tutorials, Meredith shows you multiple methods for constructing your words and connecting your letters to elevate your regular handwriting into hand-lettering.
Module 003: Connecting Lines
There are an infinite number of styles that you can create within your lettering and there is no specific "right" or "wrong" style. Instead, it's all about practicing and playing around with different ways to write each letter and/or word to create different feelings and moods. Meredith shows you four unique styles she uses in her business: Bouncy, Elongated Modern, Swirly Flourish, and Modern Hybrid
Module 004: Creating Styles
While all your need to start lettering is a pen and paper, you can also transfer your lettering skills to all kinds of mediums, like acrylic, chalkboard, envelopes, and more. In this section, Meredith takes you through her best tips and tricks for lettering on mediums besides standard paper.
Module 005: Taking It Beyond
Classical calligraphy made with old-fashioned pens and inkwells is incredibly beautiful of course, but you can also create gorgeous lettering with just a regular ol' pencil and piece of plain white printer paper. In this module, Meredith goes over the fundamentals of getting started with lettering, including how to hold your instrument and the importance of muscle memory.
